TIPS FOR THRIFTING HOME DECOR
Hey cuties!
As most of you know, I’ve been slowly redecorating my apartment these last few months and I’ve done 90% of it second-hand. It takes a ton of patience and persistence, but I’m here to attest that it’s doable!
When we started this project we wanted to completely transform our space: from aesthetic to colors to large pieces of furniture…the whole thing! At first we wanted to go in a boho-esque direction, but the deeper I dove into home decor the more I honed in on my true style. It wouldn’t be a CAOL re-decor without major thrifting so today I want to share some tips for scoring the best finds!
Know your style
You don’t necessarily have to stick to one home decor style when putting together your space, but knowing certain terms and key names can help you research what kind of pieces you want and also create really great mood boards for your thrift trips! I’m a very visual person so having inspo before I hit the thrifts really helps guide my hunting experience. Like I mentioned before, when we started this process I thought I wanted a more Boho-esque space, but the more I researched the more I was drawn into eclectic, maximalist styles with a french nod. This completely changed my direction when it came to thrifting for home decor pieces and helped me focus on what would work vs. what was just a cute find.
Make it a thrift-a-thon
Just like all thrifting you have to keep in mind that this is a marathon, not a sprint. You won’t find everything you want/need in one trip but rather continuously keep an eye out for pieces that will work for your space. Also, when it comes to home decor there are so many places you can thrift, i.e.: Facebook Marketplace, vintage/antique stores, wholesale second-hand furniture shops, etc. This is also where those home decor terms come into play!
Know when to invest
Lastly, just keep in mind that when it comes to home decor prices will be higher and often times, they’re worth it. I had to a bit of reprograming for this because I’m so used to paying such low prices for clothing items, so when it came to home I didn’t want to budge…and I lost out on some great pieces because of it. What I recommend when you find something you really like + works for your space but the price hurts just a tad: pull out your phone and do a quick Google search to see what the interwebs say about it. This way you can swiftly gauge if the piece is worth it!
Also, just want to say a huge thank you to Article for gifting us this wonderful couch that we both love oh so much! It’s always been a dream of mine to own a leather couch and this Timber Charm baby made it a reality!
