Seriously thinking of starting a #TravelTuesday segment because it seems like every week I have a new travel diary to catch up on. Good problems to have...fully aware here:)
Today's visual story is quite a short one since I was only in Playa for a short 48 hours. #storyofmylife
I flew into Cancun Saturday morning , where the longest immigration line ever (in the history of mankind) awaited. I asked around to see if this was the norm- I certainly don't remember standing in line for over an hour prior to sippin' on margs by the beach last time I was in Cancun. But apparently this is what you can expect 90% of the time when you're flying in on the weekend. I know who will be investing in a couple glossies prior to arrival next time- me!
Post-immigration nightmare, the hour-long bus ride to Playa was the next task at hand. A short conversation with a fellow tourist from Argentina and about a thousand deleted iPhone photos later, I finally arrived to my final destination: the pretty Playa del Carmen.
After dropping off my bag at our Airbnb and a quick shower, my fam and I headed to the Thompson Hotel for an early dinner at Catch. And yes, I know what you're thinking, 'can she be any more gringa choosing to eat at a house-hold American club over the real, authentic stuff?' But trust me on this one, when you've spent over six hours flying plus two hours trying to leave an airport plus an hour-long bus ride and all you've had to eat is a Jamba Juice smoothie, you will pretty much eat whatever's put in front of you.
We rose early on Sunday to head over to a cenote, which was our main objective during this trip. A few locals recommended one that conveniently had a deserted beach as its next-door neighbor and so went for it. At Xcacel we dipped our feet in the water, attempted to swim in the cenote and soaked in the sun before we had to head back to the airport.
Overall it was a pretty great weekend adventure but I totally recommend spending at least 4-5 days in this little slice of heaven of a place. Playa and Tulum both have so much beauty to offer and it should definitely be enjoyed thoroughly!
